Christmas is coming! To celebrate this joyous occasion, The Clementi Mall Management has liaised with 10Square and The Little Arts Academy to organize a series of enchanting performances for festive shoppers. Our children and youth performers dazzled members of public with their evening performances, on the 16-18 Dec and 21-23 Dec, with the stage right at the very heart of the mall!
Christmas is truly a magical time – not only because of mystical elves and flying reindeers but also for the poetic magic that derives from theatre itself. Our LAA students performed an excerpt from their recent play, The Big Friendly Giant (BFG). The play, previously performed at 10square@Orchard Central, has been adapted to best showcase Roald Dahl’s captivating tale of the big friendly giant and his newfound human friend, Sophie. The series of performances started right off the bat with the BFG and Sophie’s budding friendship, with a growing crowd drawn to the passionate acting and eye catching props that our performers were waving about. After all the rehearsals for the year-end production, the children’s acting has been polished to perfection. The audience, young and old alike, were enthralled by our lovable little giants running about trying to find tasty humans for a snack! The play ended off on a high note, switching back to the heart-warming dialogue between two friends. Indeed, Christmas is not just about presents. It’s also about the gift of friendship!
Following the play, we had our juniors from the Sugar Rush Crew turned up the heat with their dynamic dance showcases! The six-man team coordinated amazing outfits and even more amazing moves, taking the floor with hip hop that wowed the audiences watching from all three levels. Their synergy and dynamic moves perfectly reflected the festive atmosphere!
Next up was a heated dance set by our youths – performing Stronger and Low. The animated item featuring songs from the Billboard Hot 100 had passersby stopping in their tracks and drawn to the stage by our mesmerizing dancers.
Right after that we had another hyped up musical number – Fame and I Believe. These musical numbers featured a music track recorded by our very own singers: Gerrah, Alif, and Amirah. Our youths performed the musical brilliantly during their Year End Show at 10sq for the Youth Artistes Festival. This invigorating adapted is packed with excitement too, combining funky dance moves with upbeat singing. Their breathtaking and synchronized choreography drew an even larger crowd to the stage!
Last but not least, our performers brought to the stage the latest grooves. Everyone from singers, dancers, and even actors performed, making it a truly holistic showcase. A lively rendition of ‘Santa Tell Me’ was performed by our, followed by yet another soulful version of Justin Bieber’s ‘Mistletoe’. The final item was a powerful mashup of ‘Uptown Funk’ and ‘Lips are Moving’, a harmonically-rich performance that showcased the raw talent, energy and passion of our youths – with even the audience clapping along to the beat.
A shopping centre may not be the ideal stage but it is certainly a lively one. This Christmas, our performers also receive another priceless gift – the gift of experience. Through performing in a different kind of environment and being exposed to a different kind of audience, the children and youth get to experience something new as well!
To end off, all of us here from LAA would like to say a very big thank you to Clementi Mall for giving us this wonderful opportunity and of course, Merry Christmas to all!
